Sekai Machache is a Glasgow-based Zimbabwean-Scottish visual artist and curator. Her work is an in-depth examination of the concept of self. She is fascinated by the connection between spirituality, imagination, and the artist’s responsibility in propagating symbolic images in order to create a healing place. Sekai uses a variety of media, including photography. Her signature style is defined by digital studio compositions that incorporate body paint and subdued lighting to produce pictures that appear to emerge from the shadows.
Sekai is a Talbot Rice Residency Program artist in residence and the recipient of the 2020 RSA Morton Award. She just became a board member of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and works as an artist policy officer for Scottish Contemporary Arts Network.
